Growing up in Soviet Georgia, Giorgi Salakaia’s primary goal in starting his business was to create a high-quality product that reflected the essence of its origin. In 2006, in the heart of Georgia’s historic winemaking region of Kakheti, within the Akhmeta subregion, in the village of Zemo Khodasheni, Giorgi Salakaia embarked on a mission that was vital for the country—a nation with immense potential yet underdeveloped in its wine industry.

The location, blessed with all the natural resources for producing exceptional wines, was in poor and neglected condition at the time. Despite the challenges, Salakaia and his dedicated team began the journey from scratch, undertaking immense effort and hard work. Today, their perseverance has transformed the venture into the leading wine producer in Georgia, serving as one of the nation’s finest ambassadors on the global stage.

Badagoni brand philosophy:
We create the best Georgian wine exceptionally from Georgian grape varieties, while harmoniously merging 8000-year long Georgian winemaking traditions with the most advanced technologies & scientific knowledge.

Since 2017, Badagoni maintains its position as a top wine exporter from Georgia exporting wines to more than 35 countries.. We produce more than 12 000 000 bottles of wine per year. A wide range of Badagoni products comprises still wine, sparkling wine, Chacha and Qvevri wines. Badagoni qvevri wines are vinified in the historic 11th-century Alaverdi monastery wine cellar in full accordance with the 8000 year old Georgian tradition.

Ancient roots, global ambition.

Badagoni is a pioneer in elevating Georgian wine production standards, integrating sophisticated technologies, and collaborating with the renowned Italian wine research center Enosis Meraviglia, led by the acclaimed oenologist Dr. Donato Lanati.

Currently, there are about 1500 people working at Badagoni. Furthermore, Badagoni contributes significantly to the growth of wine tourism in Georgia by providing excellent hospitality facilities (4 restaurants and 3 hotels) as well as by funding the advancement of wine education through initiatives like “Qvevri Academy”, archeological research and studies of the potential of different Georgian grape varieties among many other things.
